All
the Regional Joint Directors and the District Educational Officers
in the State are informed that Government of Andhra Pradesh is
in the process of
developing a Physical Literacy Policy and Implementation Plan.
Generally in India, and particularly in
Andhra Pradesh, while
the
literacy levels
are
going up, statistics present a
different picture altogether with regard to the
physical fitness
levels
of citizens at large. The
reason for prevalence of unhealthy situation in
society
is lack
of physical literacy
in
the society. Absence/lack of physical literacy impacts
growth, development, productivity and life expectancy of citizens.
"Physical literacy can be
described as the
motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value
and
take responsibility for
engagement in physical
activities for
life." (Whitehead, 2016), who
coined the word.
